    Truckers’ Primary Auto Liability Coverage

Also referred to as primary liability insurance, this is one of the two types of coverage required by the FMCSA. It safeguards against property damage and bodily injury resulting from accidents involving your business-owned vehicles. This policy can also help cover legal fees if you are sued following an accident. Notably, it applies even after unloading cargo or when the vehicle is used for personal purposes.

    Motor Truck Cargo Coverage

When transporting goods, ensuring the safety of the cargo is paramount. Motor truck cargo coverage protects against loss, theft, or damage to the cargo while in your possession. Depending on your policy, it may also cover debris cleanup and other related expenses. Not all cargo insurance packages offer the same level of protection, so it’s essential to work with a knowledgeable agent who can help you navigate the available options to find the best coverage for your needs.

    Physical Damage Coverage

Physical damage coverage is vital for protecting your truck from damage due to accidents, theft, or other events. It encompasses various scenarios, including natural disasters and vandalism. When selecting this coverage, consider the deductible options carefully—higher deductibles can lead to out-of-pocket expenses during claims, while lower deductibles increase premium costs.

    General Liability Coverage

This type of insurance protects against property damage or injury claims that occur outside of truck operations. For example, if you accidentally damage a valuable item in an office, this coverage would apply. It is typically low-risk, resulting in relatively lower premiums.

    Workers’ Compensation Coverage

Workers’ Compensation insurance provides coverage for employees who sustain work-related injuries or illnesses. While most businesses must have this insurance, some small businesses, such as sole proprietors and those that only hire contractors, may not be required to carry it, depending on state laws.

This insurance serves two main purposes: it ensures that injured workers receive medical care and compensation, and it protects business owners by allowing employees to waive their right to sue for additional damages related to their injuries.

Since regulations vary by state, it's important to check with your local department of insurance to understand the specific requirements in your area. Remember, Workers’ Compensation is legally required in most states.

    Non-Trucking Liability Insurance

This type of insurance is designed for truckers who use their vehicles for personal purposes when not under dispatch. This coverage protects against third-party bodily injury and property damage claims that may arise during personal use.

While it does not cover accidents that occur while transporting cargo, it is often required by motor carriers for owner-operators. This insurance typically has lower premiums compared to standard trucking liability insurance, providing peace of mind for truck owners when using their vehicles outside of business activities.
